Sunflowers

This mural was created using acrylic spray paint on a concrete wall at my old school. The street-art styled work explores familiar landmarks of Brisbane, fond childhood memories of travelling by train into Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art and the important relationships formed while at school.

Painted in my favourite colorway of blues, purples & pinks, I wanted the mural to convey a sense of youthful vitality and bring unity within the work. The sunflowers, in bursts of yellow and orange, create a strong energetic presence  and represent the warm friendships formed by all members of school community. The mural is indicative of the Visual Arts creative space classrooms that lie just beyond and I wanted to portray how the highly technical work pays homage to the skills, effort and creativity that drives every artistic endeavour. I was happy how this turned out, both close up and from a distance.
