Rocky Story

Rocky has always represented more than boxing to me. Growing up, the character symbolised determination, resilience and the refusal to stay down no matter how difficult the fight became. I wanted this artwork to capture that raw intensity — not just the physical movement of a boxer in the ring, but the emotion, grit and relentless energy that made Rocky such an iconic figure.

I chose to paint this piece entirely in black and white to strip everything back to its purest form. Without colour, the focus shifts completely onto the movement, contrast and emotion within the composition. The dramatic shadows and highlights create a sense of impact and tension, almost like a frozen moment inside the chaos of a fight.

The artwork was created using boxing gloves as painting tools rather than traditional brushes. That process became part of the concept. Every mark, smear and strike on the canvas carried the same unpredictable force and aggression associated with boxing itself. I wanted the creation of the painting to feel as energetic and physical as Rocky himself.

Throughout the piece, there’s a constant sense of motion – punches being thrown, bodies moving, sweat and adrenaline surging. At the same time, I wanted Rocky’s presence to feel focused and unbreakable. For me, this artwork is about endurance and fighting forward, both inside and outside the ring.
