In this contemporary portrait, I re-imagine a timeless figure through a modern lens, using acrylic paint applied with a wine bottle – a method that embraces spontaneity and unconventional creativity. The work depicts Jesus holding a candle, its warm glow illuminating his serene expression which invites the viewer into a moment of calm and quiet reflection.
Jesus’s hair carries a contemporary twist with subtle purple highlights, while his cloak is painted using my signature pinks and oranges, and the halo glows green, creating a dynamic contrast that balances vibrancy with calm. Through this piece, I explore the intersection of ritual and play, reverence and experimentation, showing that spiritual presence can be conveyed through both classical symbolism and modern inventive, tactile techniques.
The viral response to the creation process highlights the universal fascination with both the act of making and the power of reinterpretation – an affirmation that art can connect across time, medium, and perspective.
