Hulk Story

As a young boy, the Hulk was one of my childhood heroes and I was impressed by his sheer size and power.  Now older, I wanted to paint him as a symbol of the power we keep hidden beneath the surface. Who really understands us, what we think and what we keep inside?

In contrast to my usual palette of pinks and purples, I used bold greens and yellow to radiate Hulk’s raw energy while the darker tones suggest the silence of suppressed emotion: two emotions I often feel as a visual artist.  I painted this artwork with energetic brushstrokes, punches and strikes with a towel which helped create the sense of unrest. I couldn’t resist adding a little of my signature purple at the top!

This work embodies hidden strength, unspoken fury and reflects the universal tension between restraint and release.
